In March 2020, the Inquiry has come to the end of its work with the handover of its findings and recommendations.
Inquiry Chair Dame Silvia Cartwright has presented the Report of the Public Inquiry into the Earthquake Commission, along with a companion document summarising what the Inquiry heard from people, to New Zealand's Governor-General as is required.
These two documents have been subsequently passed from the Governor-General to the Minister Responsible for the Earthquake Commission, and it will be for the Government to consider the Inquiry's findings and recommendations and what actions it may take as a result.
Any public release of the Report of the Public Inquiry into the Earthquake Commission, and its companion summary, is also a matter for the Government.
Dame Silvia wants to thank everyone who participated in or supported the Inquiry, and sends her best wishes to everyone as New Zealand works its way through the COVID-19 pandemic.
